Frequently asked questions

Can I download these patterns for free?

54 of 67 are free to download right from the pattern page. The other 13 are on the makers’ sites: we don’t host them and link to the maker instead — free or to their shop.

Which pattern should a beginner start with?

There are no easy patterns here; the most approachable are medium: Riona Tote, Garden Forty 40 Tote and Neris Tote. All easy patterns in the catalog are in Easy leather patterns for beginners.

Are there video tutorials?

Yes, 41 of 67 come with the maker’s video tutorial, which you can watch right on the pattern page. For example: Riona Tote, Garden Forty 40 Tote and Ilmar Bucket Bag.

How do I print a pattern at actual size?

Paper sizes: A4 — 46, Letter — 9, A3 — 7, A0 — 2. Print at 100% scale (“Actual size”) with “Fit to page” turned off, and check the test square or a piece dimension with a ruler before cutting.

What leather should I use?

The body is usually cut from 1.4–2 mm (3.5–5 oz) leather, handles and straps from firmer 2.5–3.5 mm (6–9 oz) leather. Makers often give the exact thickness — check the description and notes on the pattern page.

What language are the instructions in?

Instruction languages: English — 51, Russian — 1. Even without the language you can follow the drawings and video tutorial, and titles and descriptions on the site are translated into English, Russian and Spanish.
